A focus on solar power leads to sustainable and cost-efficient energy consumption

Brytec Stockfeed produce high quality New Zealand milk powder for growing calves when they are more than just a hobby. Their product is a very healthy milk that is ideal for calves from five days old.

In 2023, Bryson Montgomery, owner of Brytec Stockfeed, was in the market of finding a reputable company to install a solar power system on the roof of his facility. The facility as well as two households on the property had been incurring high electricity bills of approximately $3,000 per month, a cost Bryson was keen to reduce.

Bryson initially received a high-cost quote from one provider for the solar installation, who also advised him the roof of his facility was not suitable to add solar panels to and suggested installing the panels in-ground. Bryson was not satisfied with this response and found Off-Grid Electrical online, who were happy to install the solar panels on the factory roof and at a significantly lower cost.

Off-Grid Electrical installed 72 solar panels on the factory’s roof. The solar panel installation has had a significant impact on Bryson Montgomery’s energy consumption and expenses. Since the installation, the monthly electricity bills have reduced drastically to approximately $500 per month. This translates to a saving of $2,500 per month, or $30,000 per year.

Considering the extensive power requirements of the factory, which operates 10-15 hours aday, the solar system has proven to be highly efficient and cost-effective. The factory employs various appliances, including 11 heat pumps, a 15-horsepower compressor, a 40-horsepower blender, and a walk-in freezer (installed after the solar installation). The solar system has successfully powered these appliances as well asthe two households on the property, leading to substantial electricity savings.

He intends to install 70 more solar panels on another part of the roof, enabling the factory to generate surplus electricity to sell back to the grid. This additional source of income will serve as a passive revenue stream for Bryson.

Recently, the team were able to identify a problem with the inverter, possibly resulting from a lightning strike, and promptly replaced it and repaired the wiring.
